The book I am going to talk about discusses about a similar war i.e third battle of Panipat. It was fought between Marathas and Afghans. Although it’s a novel but the background of history makes it interesting. Author has taken lot of pains in collecting information about political situation in Delhi, ambitions and treachery of Najib Khan, mistakes by Marathas in understanding undercurrents, climate, strategic location of Marathas vis-à-vis Afghans etc. Although Marathas lost the battle, but what stands out is the patriotism of Marathas, determination of Sadashivraobhau even in a case of providence, Abdally’s strategy of surrounding enemy and cut off it’s supply lines etc . A must read for somebody who is interested in Maratha history.
